SIGMETRICS Initiatives
There are three main initiatives that the SIGMETRICS Executive Committee has been working on for the past year or two:
- Visibility: Our SIG has been trying to improve the visibility of performance evaluation through partnerships and an expanded set of conference activities. For example, SIGMETRICS is now a co-sponsor (with SIGCOMM) of the Internet Measurement Conference (IMC) series, and has been "in cooperation" with recent ValueTools conferences. SIGMETRICS (along with SIGSOFT) also supported the recent WOSP/SIPEW 2010 conference, jointly involving SPEC and ACM. Future versions of this event will be known as the International Conference on Performance Engineering (ICPE), starting in 2011.
- History: We have made a concerted effort to document some of the early history of our SIG, which is now almost 40 years old. See the SIG History link on the Web site.
- Journal: SIGMETRICS is proposing to create a new ACM journal as a suitable publication venue for computer systems performance evaluation research. The tentative title of the journal is ACM Transactions on Modeling and Performance Evaluation (ToMPE). We should know more about the status of this proposal by December 2010.
