Devavrat Shah Wins the 2008 SIGMETRICS Rising Star Researcher Award

ACM SIGMETRICS is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Devavrat Shah of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as the recipient of the 2008 ACM SIGMETRICS Rising Star Researcher Award in recognition of his significant contributions to the development of several Network Algorithms and novel Performance Analysis methods.

Dr. Shah received a B.Tech. degree in Computer Science from IIT Bombay in 1999 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2004. He is currently Jamieson Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests include network algorithms and stochastic, distributed algorithms, statistical inference and network information theory.

Dr. Shah has served on the program committees of ACM SIGMETRICS, IEEE INFOCOM, Information Theory Workshop, and Value-Tools. He has also been involved in organizing conference sessions at INFORMS (Probability Cluster). He was the Plenary Speaker at Inter-Perf 2007. He has written a book chapter, titled ``Network Scheduling and Message Passing,'' to appear in Performance Modeling and Engineering, Collection of Tutorials of ACM SIGMETRICS/PERFORMANCE '08, Springer, 2008. He has received the President of India Gold Medal from IIT Bombay in 1999, the 2004 Infocom Best Paper Award, the 2006 SIGMETRICS Best Paper Award, the 2004 INFORMS George Dantzig Best Dissertation Award, and the NSF CAREER Award.
